The additional care allowance can still be used. It has been extended until April 25. It is granted when the child’s or disabled adult’s educational institution is closed or operating on a limited basis. The allowance can also be used when, due to the pandemic, a nanny hired on an activation or day-care contract cannot take care of the child.
For over a year now, parents have been able to use the additional care allowance when the educational institution is closed or conducting remote learning. This benefit is intended for caring for children up to 8 years old, as well as older children with a relevant disability certificate. Insured parents are also entitled to the benefit for adult individuals up to the age of 24 who have a certificate of special education needs.
According to the regulations until April 18, among others, nurseries, children’s clubs, day carers, primary schools, and kindergartens are obliged to provide care for children of individuals employed in entities performing medical activities, carrying out tasks related to medical rescue coordination, public tasks in preventing, combating, and combating COVID-19, and carrying out rescue operations. – However, if the parent does not use the care provided by such an institution, they are entitled to additional care allowance. On the other hand, if the parent uses such care, they are not entitled to additional care allowance – informs Beata Kopczyńska, the regional spokesperson for the Social Insurance Institution in the Silesian Voivodeship.
To receive the allowance, a statement from the parent is required. It should be sent to the employer or the principal. A parent who is self-employed submits the document to the Social Insurance Institution – this can be done through the ZUS Electronic Services Platform. The statement template is available on the ZUS website (www.zus.pl).
The monthly care allowance – both additional due to COVID-19 and granted on general terms – amounts to 80% of the salary. It is paid for each day in which care is provided, including public holidays. The additional care allowance is not included in the limit of 60 days of care allowance in a calendar year, granted on general terms.
