Anniversary of the Opoczno Municipal Orchestra

The Opoczno City Orchestra celebrated its 115th anniversary. On this occasion, a jubilee concert took place at the Opoczno Municipal Cultural Center. The Opoczno City Orchestra was established 115 years ago. Initially, it operated alongside the fire brigade, but today it functions within the Opoczno Municipal Cultural Center, says Zdzisław Miękus, the director of the institution.

During the jubilee concert held at the Municipal Cultural Center, two members of the Opoczno City Orchestra were awarded the honorary badges “Meritorious for Polish Culture.” Wacław Madej and Wojciech Turek were honored with these prestigious awards. – This is a great honor – said percussionist Wojciech Turek after receiving the badge.

The badges awarded by the Minister of Culture were presented by MP Grzegorz Lorka. The orchestra itself was also awarded this distinction. It was also appreciated by the Łódź Voivodeship Council, says Tomasz Łuczkowski, the deputy mayor of Opoczno.

Currently, the Opoczno City Orchestra is led by conductor Bartłomiej Gawron. According to him, the jubilee concert is a summary of this year’s activities of the ensemble under his direction.

The audience gathered at the Municipal Cultural Center had the opportunity to applaud various compositions performed by the Opoczno City Orchestra. These included marches, film music, dixieland, entertainment, and even folk songs. Former members of the ensemble also attended the jubilee concert.

The solemn performance of the Opoczno City Orchestra at the Municipal Cultural Center took place as part of Cecylianka, a concert commemorating St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians.
