Due to recent cases of fatal poisonings with plant protection products containing aluminum phosphide, probably used inappropriately as rodenticides, there is a reasonable suspicion that individuals without the appropriate qualifications, i.e. without completed training in the field of plant protection products, may have purchased these products. We would like to inform you that plant protection products for fumigation, which were purchased without the appropriate purchase or use qualifications, cannot be used and should not be stored in unsuitable places. These products should be handed over for disposal to entities authorized to collect hazardous waste.
The Main Inspectorate of Plant Protection and Seed warns that plant protection products for fumigation, whose packaging has been opened or is leaking, pose a risk of releasing phosphine gas and may become a real health and life-threatening hazard to individuals in contact with them, therefore they should be immediately handed over as hazardous waste for disposal by entities authorized to collect such waste. Under no circumstances should plant protection products containing aluminum phosphide be disposed of in mixed waste or other unauthorized locations, as this could lead to accidental poisoning of individuals.
Assistance in determining the entities authorized to collect hazardous waste from the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship can be obtained from the Branches of the Main Inspectorate of Plant Protection and Seed https://piorin.gov.pl/wm-struktura/wm-ot/ or from provincial units of environmental protection inspectorates. It is also recommended that individuals who have purchased plant protection products for fumigation without the appropriate qualifications immediately contact the distributor from whom the purchase was made to establish safe handling of these products. The Main Inspectorate of Plant Protection and Seed informs that such products can only be transported by qualified companies in accordance with ADR regulations.
