The General Command of the Armed Forces informs that the aim of the maneuvers is to check procedures and confirm the military’s ability to carry out movement and achieve readiness in the designated area for performing tasks. The military is asking for calm: the military maneuvers under the codename Dragon-24 are exercises. Soldiers train intensively to improve their skills, check their preparedness, and readiness to act. Procedures, including those concerning the transport and movement of troops, are systematically checked and verified. Increased movement of military columns, moving throughout the country, can be observed since February 12. The military also trains in rough terrain, which allows them to train in conditions that add realism to the training. Transport and movement of troops are elements present in all types of actions carried out by the Armed Forces. The ability to move forces over long distances in order to undertake a full range of functions and tasks is crucial to ensuring the effectiveness of future national and multinational operations. The ability to transport and move troops applies to the entire range of tasks of the Polish Armed Forces in the current and foreseeable security environment. Since February 12, 2024, there has been movement of military vehicle columns on the roads of almost the entire country due to the military exercises under the codenames Steadfast Defender-24 and Dragon-24. The General Command of the Armed Forces appeals to drivers to exercise special caution. It is not advisable to enter between military vehicles in a column. The General Command of the Armed Forces also appeals for the protection of data, especially in the current situation. “We ask everyone not to publish information and photos illustrating the movements of troops and their location, dates and times of military vehicle column crossings, data concerning the departures and landings of military aircraft, license plates, recognition marks, and identification signs. Let’s be aware of the threats! Every thoughtless action on the internet, publishing photos depicting military objects, installations, equipment can have negative consequences for the security and defense system of Poland” – we read in the appeal. In the first half of 2024, NATO is conducting a series of exercises under the common codename Steadfast Defender-24 (STDE-24). Within the STDE-24 exercises, Poland plays the role of one of the host countries and hosts a significant number of soldiers and equipment of allies on its territory. A key element of STDE-24 is the Polish national exercise with the participation of armed forces of other countries Dragon-24 (DR-24), which started on February 26. STDE-24 and DR-24 are defensive exercises and are not directed against any specific country. More information can be found on the website http://www.wojsko-polskie.pl/dgrsz.
