The need to set up speed cameras to increase road safety in the city is an indisputable fact. Few drivers adhere to the established speed limit in built-up areas. Hence the initiative of the City Mayor and Municipal Police has aroused the interest of the Council Members in the problem.
On Friday, June 26th, City Mayor Janusz Romaniuk, Deputy Mayor Rafał Gil, Jarosław Żochowski, Commander of the Municipal Police, along with police officers and members of the Commission for Agriculture, Environmental Protection, Law and Order in the City, met to examine the speed of passing cars on Wolności and Krasickiego streets. The examination was carried out using speed cameras borrowed free of charge from a company in Częstochowa that distributes these devices. On both highly trafficked streets, approximately 60 instances of speeding were noted. The record holder, driving on al. Wolności near the hospital, had a speed of 106 km on the speedometer.
The conclusions of the Commission, along with the materials prepared by the Municipal Police, will be presented at the next session.
