The year 2011 evokes among all residents of the Silesian Voivodeship: Upper Silesians, residents of the Zagłębie region, Podbeskidzie, and the Częstochowa region – the ethos of the great uprising, which was the Third Silesian Uprising. It fulfilled the dreams of many generations of residents of Upper Silesia and Cieszyn Silesia of reconnecting with the Polish Motherland. Bowing our heads before Wojciech Korfanty, Michał Grażyński, and thousands of other insurgents, we remember how much the Nation and the Polish State owe to them. At the same time, we reach back in memory to other great events imbued with the ethos of the struggle for independence. We owe memory and honor to the heroes of those days.
Here, in the Silesian Voivodeship, together with the communities of veterans of the fight for independence and military communities, we ask for participation in an action to give the celebrations of the anniversary of this event a special character. We want the movement in the whole country to freeze for a minute on the anniversary of the hour “W.” This should be accompanied by sirens and car horns sounding on August 1 at 5:00 PM. To emphasize the importance of the event, which was the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, we also propose the hanging of national flags in public places and private homes.
We strongly hope for a joint commemoration of the Great Ideas and heroism of the Warsaw Uprising heroes, and thus – a symbolic tribute to the heroes of all National Uprisings, and in a unique way, to the heroes of the Silesian Uprisings on This Earth.
