On September 3, 2011, the I All-Polish Shooting Picnic for the “BELDONKA Cup” took place in Busko Zdrój. The competition was attended by a group of Black Powder Shooters created at the Regional Management of the Polish People’s Army in Myszków.
The group consists of: Tomasz Paterek, Stanisław Bulski, Zdzisław Wrona, Ireneusz Raźniewski, Mariusz Uss. The goal of the meeting of people from all over Poland was to popularize black powder shooting, shotgun shooting, the history of firearms, and armament.
Black powder firearms are a type of firearms in which firing a projectile is the result of the rapid burning of black powder. Today, such firearms in combat use have been almost completely replaced by firearms in which various smokeless powders are burned, known as nitro. Black powder firearms include all kinds of cannons and hand weapons produced until the end of the 19th century (as well as their later replicas), as in this century other propellants were invented outside of black powder, usually much more effective and not producing smoke (smokeless powders). Black powder firearms were most often muzzle-loaded, i.e. from the barrel side, with powder and projectile loaded separately, possibly with multiple projectiles, different sealing elements such as rivets or wads. There are also numerous examples of breech-loading black powder weapons, such as the German model 1842, the so-called Dreyse rifle. In late black powder weapons, integrated ammunition was often used, with side or central ignition, in paper cartridges or shells.
The competition took place at the most climatically situated shooting range in the heart of Ponidzie, one of the most beautiful natural shooting range sceneries in Skotniki Małe.
A large group of shooting enthusiasts from all over the country took advantage of the invitation and participated in the competition with unique weapons in stylish attire appropriate to the period from which the military equipment originated. The collection of American Winchester rifles, cap and ball muzzleloaders, efficient for use in the competitions, were of great interest. The audience had the opportunity to see originals, replicas of old firearms from all over the world, about which the current owners, who are passionate about this field, vividly described with details.
Although it was just a shooting picnic, several shooting competitions were held, in which a total of 29 people competed.
