The richly illustrated album “Malczewski. Zbliżenia” allows us to take a closer look at the works of this outstanding artist. Through selected works from the collections of the biggest Polish museums, as well as from private collections, we can delve deeper into their form and content. Paulina Szymalak – Bugajska takes us on a journey from Malczewski’s youthful explorations to his mature, symbol-rich creativity – says Daniel Adamczyk about the publication. Discussing portraits, landscapes, genre painting, and symbolism, she shows how Malczewski perceived the role of the artist and art in the modern world, as well as how he interpreted the path to freedom for Poland and the Polish people. She points out the literary and artistic inspirations, and also brings us closer to the interesting circumstances of the creation of these outstanding works.
