Repairs to the pool basin caused the pool to be closed.

The increasing delineation of reinforced concrete under the pool, as well as the increasing dampness and leaking water, were the reasons for the closure of the pool at MOSiR. Further operation of the facility in its current technical condition would even risk its collapse.

Below is a description of the technical condition of the pool basin at the indoor swimming pool in Myszków, presented by MOSiR in Myszków.

The building structure (pool basin) is made of reinforced concrete with an isolation covering made of pool foil. The foil was placed about 13 years ago, with its lifespan being estimated by the manufacturer at around 10 years. Recently, patching of the foil was done, but the contractor stated that the foil is in poor technical condition and further patching is not sensible. During previous periodic inspections, there were no significant dampness or water leaks. Therefore, the renovation and replacement of the foil were planned for next year. However, in recent days, the dampness and water leaks under the pool basin were very concerning and increasing day by day.

The most concerning issue was the delineation of the concrete under the basin, from which water was leaking. The aggressiveness of the liquid environment on concrete structures depends mainly on the type of liquid, concentration levels, and temperature. All these elements in pool water have a high level of aggressiveness. Even slight corrosion of concrete or reinforcement can lead to a sudden collapse of the structure, which is more dangerous because the early assessment of its strength durability is not always possible based on the appearance and behavior of the structure.

As a result of the conducted inspection of the technical condition of the above-mentioned building structure on December 3, 2008, it was found that the object (pool basin) is in overall poor technical condition, recommending urgent repair of the basin. The County Building Supervision Inspectorate in Myszków was informed of this fact. The inspection on December 8, 2008, confirmed the poor technical condition of the basin, ordering the closure of the facility for repairs. In the meantime, about 13 companies specializing in such repairs were informed of the need for basin repairs.

We will inform you of the duration of the closure of the pool at a later date.
