On April 10th, at the City Cultural Center in Myszków, awards were presented to the winners and distinguished students of the 2nd Myszków English language competition “BIG BEN” under the patronage of the Mayor of Myszków.
The organizers of the “BIG BEN” competition were “SUCCESS” – Center for Foreign Language Teaching and Macmillan Publishing. The second edition of the competition was aimed at students in sixth and fourth grades of primary schools in the Myszków area. The aim of the competition was to promote the practical use of the English language and to confront children and young people with their language knowledge and skills.
18 primary schools from four counties participated in the competition: myszków, zawierciański, będziński, and częstochowskiego. A total of 177 students took part in the competition, including 77 students from fourth grade and 100 students from sixth grade.
Just like last year, “BIG BEN” was held in two stages: the first stage – school (semi-final) tested the creative use of the English language by children and young people in writing, including completing a given text, while the second stage – final, was conducted in a rarely encountered form – an oral form.
The Honorary Guest at the award ceremony was the Mayor of Myszków, Włodzimierz Żak. In his opening speech, the competition organizers thanked the mayor for his participation in the ceremony and also expressed their gratitude to the teachers for their work and dedication in preparing children and young people for the competition and presented diplomas and gifts. The organizers, along with the Mayor of Myszków, congratulated the winners and distinguished students on overcoming language barriers and achieving high results in the competition, and also presented diplomas and prizes. The competition winners received main prizes, which are English language courses funded by the “SUCCESS” Language School and books and gadgets sponsored by Macmillan Publishing. After the ceremonial presentation of the awards, a mini-conference for teachers on the topic of diagnosing students in public schools was held, conducted by the Regional Representative of Macmillan Publishing.
