A cake and picnic for tourists in Wadowice’s market square, the Family Home of John Paul II Museum celebrated 10 years of its existence in Wadowice. As the museum reported, over the course of these 10 years, the institution was visited by 1,850,000 people. On April 9, 2014, the first guests crossed the threshold of the museum after its renovation. “On that day, we began to write another chapter in the history of this extraordinary place,” the Family Home of John Paul II Museum in Wadowice announced on Tuesday. Of course, previously, there was a papal museum operating in a tenement house on Kościelna Street, run by the Nazareth sisters on behalf of the Archdiocese of Krakow. Therefore, the occasion for celebration was the 40th anniversary of the museum’s existence and 10 years of operation in its new form. On Tuesday, museum staff organized a picnic with games and attractions for children in the square for the residents. There was also an anniversary cake. One of the activities was the creation of a mural for the anniversary. Those painting the mural in the square could fill the number ten with one “good word.” People wrote “kindness”, “hope”, and “love”, among other things. The mural is set to become part of the museum’s collection. “Today, we want to thank: each of over one million eight hundred fifty thousand people from all over the world who visited the Family Home of Holy Father John Paul II Museum over the past 10 years,” museum staff conveyed. At the same time, the institution thanked the donors who contributed their private mementos, collections, and items. “We thank the Organizers of the Museum – the Archdiocese of Krakow, Małopolska, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and Wadowice – where it all began – for their help and invaluable support in the development of the Museum and in preserving the memory of John Paul II. And also to all of you who accompany us on social media every day. Without all of you, this place would not be so special. Today, we are filled with gratitude and pride that we are part of a place where we care for the legacy of the Holy Father,” the museum announced.
