On April 19th at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of the City Cultural Center in Myszkow, a popular science session entitled “The History of the Katyn Lie” began, inaugurating the 70th Anniversary of the Katyn Massacre in our city.
During the session, Dr. Wacław Dubiański from the branch of the Institute of National Remembrance in Katowice gave a lecture on the history of the Katyn lie. The next lecture on the fate of the Poles deported to the USSR during World War II was conducted by Dr. Jarosław Durka.
The solemn commemorations of the Katyn massacre were attended by, among others, Jadwiga Wiśniewska, Member of the Polish Parliament, Mayor of Myszkow Janusz Romaniuk and his deputy Rafał Gil, Starost of Myszkow Łukasz Stachera, Deputy Starost Jan Kieras, Mayor of Koziegłowy Jacek Ślęczka, Mayor of Poraj Marian Szczerbak, city councilors of Myszkow, councilors of the Myszkow County, priests, scouts from the ZHP scouting organization, veterans, school youth, and numerous residents of Myszkow.
After the scientific session, the residents of Myszkow, invited guests, numerous flag bearers along with the police brass band, soldiers from the military unit in Gliwice and cadets from the Firefighting School in Częstochowa, as well as local fire brigade units, proceeded in a procession to the square of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Myszkow, where Katyn oaks were planted.
The memory of the victims who fell in Katyn was honored with two minutes of silence and honorary salutes, with the assistance of the police brass band, cadets from the Firefighting School in Częstochowa, and soldiers.
In the further part of the ceremony, under the Katyn Victims Monument, delegations from the city, county, police, firefighters laid flowers and candles for the fallen.
April 26th will be another day of commemorations of the 70th Anniversary of the Katyn Massacre in Myszkow. On this day, in the auditorium of the City Cultural Center at 9:00 a.m., a lecture on the fight for truth in the European Parliament will be delivered by Member of the European Parliament, Dr. Marek Migalski.
Following this, there will be a literary-musical performance by students from schools in Myszkow entitled “Truth and Lies about Katyn”, after which the winners of the 1st Voivodeship Historical-Literary Competition “Truth and Lies about Katyn” will be announced and awarded.
The organizers of the 70th Anniversary of the Katyn Massacre commemorations in Myszkow are: Jadwiga Wiśniewska, Member of the Polish Parliament, Janusz Romaniuk – Mayor of Myszkow, Andrzej Hutnik – Councilor of the Silesian Voivodeship Assembly, and Andrzej Drogoń – Director of the IPN branch in Katowice.
