On December 14th, a historical conference took place at the Municipal House of Culture on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the imposition of martial law. The initiators of the conference were Dr. Kazimierz Miroszewski and Dr. Jarosław Durka, to whom the Mayor of the City, Włodzimierz Żak, extends heartfelt thanks.
Historians were invited to the conference: Dr. Jarosław Neja (IPN Katowice), Mgr. Wojciech Rotarski, Dr. Paweł Kostrzewski (Archives of the Metropolitan Curia in Częstochowa), Prof. Dr. Piotr Gołdyn (UAM), Dr. Jarosław Durka (University of Opole and WOM in Częstochowa) and Dr. Hab. Kazimierz Miroszewski (University of Silesia in Katowice).
The discussion revolved around the origins of martial law and what is closest to us, the town and county of Myśków. Present in the room were direct participants of those days including Czesław Świerczyński – a person interned, Jan Blecharczyk, and Jan Pałaszewski. The memories of Mr. Cz. Świerczyński as well as the conference speeches will be included in next year’s Issues of Myśków. A nice touch at the conference was a letter from the Member of the European Parliament, Mrs. Jadwiga Wisniewska, which was read by Mr. Andrzej Hutnik.
This is already the second historical conference that the Department of Promotion, Culture and Sport, together with Myśków scientists, has organized.
