“Hey mom, my phone fell into the toilet…” – this is the message received by a 66-year-old resident of the Zamość district. The scammer convinced the woman that he was her son and couldn’t use the banking app and needed to pay for a new phone. The 66-year-old woman transferred 5,000 PLN to the criminals’ account. – A 66-year-old resident of the Zamość district received a message through a messenger. It indicated that the author of the message was her son, who lived in another city. He wrote that his phone broke – fell into the toilet and he needed to buy a new one. He also mentioned temporary problems with his bank’s app and the need for help in paying for the new phone. He asked for almost 5,000 PLN to be transferred, promising at the same time to quickly return the full amount. The 66-year-old woman did not suspect fraud and decided to help her son. She transferred the full amount to the account specified in the message – informs Dorota Krukowska – Bubiło, a spokesperson for the Zamość police. The situation was clarified after a few hours, when her real son called her. Once again, we appeal to you to verify information transmitted through messengers. Do not act hastily and under the influence of emotions!
