In September 2025, the Polish government launched mObywatel Junior – a version of the most popular government application dedicated to students of all ages. This groundbreaking solution opens the doors to digitizing education for nearly 5 million students, their parents, and guardians across Poland. The project is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Digitalization, the Central Computer Center, the Ministry of National Education, and the Center for Informatics Education, creating a comprehensive ecosystem of digital services for the school community.
The introduction of mObywatel Junior is much more than just digitizing a school ID – it is the first step towards building digital citizenship from a young age, preparing young Poles to function in a modern, digitized state. The application is designed with safety, convenience, and accessibility in mind, offering young users a space tailored to their aesthetic and functional needs.
The key function of mObywatel Junior is the digital school ID (mLegitymacja), which is now available to all students in Poland – from first-graders to high school graduates. Before the launch of this service, until June 2025, only around 180,000 students from schools directly cooperating with the Ministry of Digitalization could use the digital ID. The document was only available on one device, significantly limiting its practical application.
The new solution radically changes this situation. The digital school ID can now be added independently on five mobile devices – the student’s phone, both parents’ phones, and guardians’ or grandparents’ phones. This revolutionary change ensures that the document is always at hand in every situation – during checks in public transport, when buying discounted tickets for school trips, or at the library. As Education Minister Barbara Nowacka emphasized: “We have good news for students and parents – the student ID card is becoming a reality. The constant search for a paper ID becomes a thing of the past.”
The digital document has the same legal force as its plastic counterpart and allows students to benefit from all statutory discounts and concessions – in public transport, when entering museums, or cultural events. Furthermore, the application also works offline, allowing students to present the ID even without internet access.
