
In recent years, discussions have been held between the Polish and German governments regarding the expansion of water infrastructure on the Oder River. This idea unexpectedly gained approval from German entrepreneurs.
German ecologists raise objections
So far, German ecologists have raised their objections, which many interpreted as a method for the German government to ignore the issue. According to the Chamber of the Elbe and Oder rivers, which supports the project, the implementation of the agreement on the modernization of the border Oder River and the use of inland navigation is important.
New locks, dams, and polders on the Oder River
Actions that are already being appreciated by the German side include the construction of floodgates, locks, and polders, which have flood protection applications. Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Marek Gróbarczyk guarantees that the ongoing investment will definitely be completed despite the emerging difficulties. The investment was commissioned by the State Water Holding Wody Polskie, and the project is called “Modernization Works for Winter Icebreaking”. Budimex is responsible for the works. The project will cost 473 million Polish złoty.
