The expansion of PGZ Naval Shipyard in Gdynia will involve the modernization of existing facilities as well as the construction of brand new ones. The company located in the Port of Gdynia provides services related to the modernization, construction, and repairs of warships for state entities.
End of difficult years for the shipyard
Over the past two decades, the shipyard has been struggling with financial difficulties, which resulted in its bankruptcy declaration in 2009 and the sale of part of its land until 2021. Currently, the president of PGZ Naval Shipyard, Paweł Lulewicz, declares the intention to expand the facility. The initiative includes the construction of new buildings as part of the “Miecznik” Program. The implementation of the project is preceded by the process of obtaining permits, numerous analyses, and discussions. If everything goes smoothly, PGZ Naval Shipyard in Gdynia will have modern infrastructure at its disposal by 2024.
Poland with one of the largest shipyard buildings in Europe
A crucial aspect of this project is the construction of a new hall for the production of frigates for the needs of the Navy. The whole facility is expected to reach an area of 6 thousand square meters. The buildings will reach a projected height of 43 meters. Everything indicates that Poland will gain one of the most powerful shipyard buildings in Europe in this way. There will also be equipment departments on-site. As part of the design assumptions, the quay and the surrounding area will also undergo reconstruction.
